The main goal of this comprehensive activity is the proper interconnection of all institutions competent in the field of combating the illegal use of CBRN materials in Slovak Republic and Ukraine. Project partners will achieve it in particular by joint international networking activities, which will result in partial tasks for project partners at the national levels.

Specific activities that will contribute to achieving this goal are:

  • 3 Workshops with the participation of experts competent in the fight against illegal handling of CBRN materials from Slovak Republic, Ukraine and Norway, in order to implement the Joint Concept of Operation in Internal Acts of relevant stakeholders = in practice;
  • Analysis of the current status of Internal Acts in the field of CBRN security and cross-border information flow, their review and possible proposals for changes. The analysis will be executed during above mentioned workshops.

On April 11, 2024, a joint meeting of the governments of the Slovak Republic and Ukraine took place in Michalovce. Among other topics, representatives of the Slovak and Ukrainian governments also discussed the so-called chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear safety, which is even more relevant in view of the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine. The Minister of the Interior of the Slovak Republic and the Head of the State Border Guard Administration of Ukraine signed the Agreement on interaction and cooperation in the field of chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear security at the borders, the main objective of which is to prevent and fight against the illegal transfer of weapons of mass destruction, with special attention to chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear (CBRN) materials. The agreement will be implemented by strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic and the State Border Guard of Ukraine, mainly in the form of information exchange and the implementation of joint security projects, educational activities and, if necessary, joint interventions in the case of CBRN incidents on the Slovak-Ukrainian border.

The actual wording of the agreement was created as one of the most fundamental results of the project during the project workshops. More information can be found here.
