Final project conference
The Slovak-Ukrainian border is just under a hundred kilometers long, but its importance for the European Union is exceptionally high. It serves as the gateway to the Schengen area, meaning that anything crossing this border could end up in any country of the European Union. That also applies to dangerous chemical, biological, radioactive, and nuclear materials. The aim of the Triglav project is to ensure the utmost protection of the border from this threat. The task of Slovak and Ukrainian security forces is to prevent illegal trade in hazardous materials and thus protect the lives and health of the entire European Union population. Achieving this goal requires close cooperation between Slovak and Ukrainian experts, professional equipment, as well as training and education of specialists supported by a partnership with Norwegian experts within the Triglav project. Project Triglav – Strengthen the fight against CBRN threats at the Slovakian-Ukrainian border was implemented by the project promoter Ministry of Interior of Slovak Republic via the Department for Detection of Hazardous Substances and Environmental Crime in partnership with the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority and Ukrainian partners – International CBRN Risk Mitigation Research Center, State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and Security Service of Ukraine.
On April 09, 2024, the project implementation was evaluated and the project outcomes were presented to the international plenum represented by Norway, Ukraine, US Embassy, United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, France, Portugal, Lithuania, Romania, Hungary, Moldova, Estonia and Germany. On behalf of Slovakian institutions, the final conference was attended by representatives of the Fire and Rescue Service, the Crisis Management Section of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, several branches of the Police Force, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Slovak Republic, the Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic, the Criminal Office of the Financial Administration, the Slovak Information Service, the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic as the Program Operator.
